How much should I charge for training/PD?

Does anyone have any idea how much I should charge for training teachers/staff development? I have no idea how to figure my fee.

I have been asked by a neighboring county's school to train 2 of their teachers in what I do - short version is to set up and run a Reading Lab. The principal, who is a friend of mine, past colleague, said she would be willing to pay me (which is more than my county does).

While she would ideally like me to do a school-wide staff devel. full day, I am too busy right now to do that and figure out how I would do that without doing anything I should not do as far as time away from my job. How's that for a run-on sentence???

So for now, it would be an hourly thing - I think to start with 2 hours at my school, after school hours. My principal has said it is ok with her to use my room for that. It would only be 2 teachers. Prep time would take me at least an hour, probably 2 (on my own time).

Anybody ever hire or use staff devel. by the hour? Do it yourself? Know what they charge? Know what YOU charge?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Take your salary and divide by 200. This will give you a quick idea of your daily rate as a classroom teacher.

I would use this number as a 4-hour rate since the expertise you are providing is MORE than that of a classroom teacher.

    Using easy numbers: $50,000 salary / 200 =$250

OK, I getcha, ducttape. Sad to know how little I make per day, though!

The way you say to figure it makes sense, but it's a funny thing to figure out hourly training. Like it goes down or something (there's a reason I'm not a math teacher). A person on the Literacy Coach's yahoo group said she charges about $1,000 per full day training. I think she said if she were to figure it hourly, she'd figure it at about $175 per hour (I think?). And I just attended a full day training (writing) that cost the district about $1,500 per full day (which they viewed as reasonable). If I do it your way, my fee would come right in between those, so maybe that is the best way to do it!

    Thanks for your help!
