You gotta swing over to Lynchburg, TN. If nothing else for a bottle of Jack Daniels Private Reserve, which you can only purchase at the distillery.
Since I was worn to a frazzle this afternoon, when I got home I decided to make our summer vacation plans. We're heading to Chattanooga this year. I got some ideas for places to see, and we've added a few we've seen online. We're staying four days.
The last few times we've been on vacations, I've booked hotels online with the major hotel chains, and we've been disappointed several times. Some of you might remember our lovely "hotel with a view" from Gatlinburg last year--with a view of backs of buildings, the parking lot, and the vent from the restaurant next door. We also got the hotels in TN and NC with the broken air conditioning systems. So, this time I did some research online, and CALLED to book us at a "mom & pop" place for the three nights. I prefer staying at those places, actually.
We always take our "big" vacation around the same time every year. We take it the same week they have Bible school at our church . . . because they assume that teachers always want to teach a class during Bible school. As of Sunday, they didn't have a teacher for the teen class. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Not the TEEN CLASS!!!!! That consists mostly of middle school kids. I get enough of that at work, thanks.
If you know of any "can't miss" places anywhere from central KY to northern GA, let me know.

Oh I do hope while you were in Gatlinburg, you went to Pidgeon Forge. I've been there MANY times, and I just love it there. Theres always so much to do there, but I probably love it because I'm still a kid. Only trouble with it is it is super hard to find parking. We usually end up walking everywhere, and it can get pretty hot some days. In 2004 we went there again, and I because completely nocturnal. A lot of places are still open at night, and I spent my time in the Arcade.
Gatlinburg, I just wasn't impressed with.
I've never been to Chattanooga, but I hope you have lots of fun!
Actually, neither of us drink . . . but I've been considering taking it up with these kids acting like they have been lately.Originally Posted by Dr Dailey
Seriously, though . . . I would like to take a tour of the distillery. We've got at least six here in KY, and the tours are interesting. We toured the winery at Biltmore last year.

Yes, we always stop at several places in Pigeon Forge as well. I've been there at least once a year for most of my life. My parents always liked to go there, and I've been several times with my friends and my husband. We even went twice when I was in high school for marching band competitions. We're a little over four hours driving distance from there.Originally Posted by Voilet
I'm just the opposite. We always stay in Gatlinburg and just go into Pigeon Forge for activities. I'm at the age where sitting on the porch and watching people walk by is more entertaining than it used to be. :?Originally Posted by Voilet
Oh, I KNOW about the heat! When we were there last summer, I was hot and sticky the entire time. In every picture we have my hair is all frizzed out and I'm glossy looking from sweat. It's SOOOO humid there sometimes. Ick!!

Ima, I rarely drink either, although I have not given it serious thought right about June 10th, but the tour is cool, and the limited edition bottles do appreciate in value over time.
