A colleague of mine took an interim curriculum position for a semester. I asked her why and she said, "Why not? It's a chance to try something different." But she had been teaching for about 29 years at the time.... I say go for it.
Every time I get comfortable someone rocks the boat.
I was approached late last week about possibly changing teaching positions (starting next school year). I would take over elementary p.e., Jr. High girls athletics/p.e. (I do most of this now), and HS girls athletics /p.e. (I do most of this now). This is not a “for sure” deal but it is definite possibility. I thought about it all weekend and finally came to a decision today; if it’s offered, I am going to take it. The only thing I’m not totally sure of, is how I am going to feel being out of the traditional classroom. I have been teaching for 3 years now and I finally feel like I have hit my stride. I am worried about the whole elementary aspect because I have not been around the little ones, ever! I do great work with the 6th graders so I think I can handle it but, wow, what a change. I am also worried that I will not feel like a “real” teacher. I know coaching is hard work (I’ve been doing it), but it’s so different than teaching. I may end up slapping someone when they say all I do is play all day!
Just rambling,
TAC
