Last contract day was today

My last contract day was today. It was depressing on many levels. The first was saying good bye to people I really like working with. The second was realizing how meaningless my leaving was to the district. I have not been here forever. Only 7 years, but you would think someone at the district level would have said thank you.

Didn't happen. I guess my family was the only one who noticed the insane amount of hours I gave to the district in the last few years.

What a shame. I'm sure if many of your former students knew you were leaving, they would be more appreciative than the district for all that you have done for them.

Best of luck at your new job.

Terribly sad, but it is that way in many places. I'm sure you did a lot for your district and made a difference. You will continue this journey and make a difference in a new place. Good luck to you...

I'm eating crow. The school had a lunch for me today. Hugs all around. At least the school liked me. Screw the district.

Mark, I've been following your story (and holy! what a story), and if I can give you one piece of wholly unsolicited advice (and also free), I would say this:

You DO get back what you give out. Screw the district? Hell yeah-- because what DID you ever do for them? Brown nose to the Super? Volunteer on Committees? Invite the Secretary Treasurer sailing? No? Why not? Because you were giving to the kids and your school....and you TOTALLY "got back" from them, right?

Now....don't get me wrong. I've been bitter in the past, and I have been FURIOUS at the treatment/neglect I've received from the district, and yes it's wrong, and hell yeah it's unfair....but, at the end of the day? Whatever.

So, take on your new challenge, dragged to it though you were under totally less than ideal circumstances, and .......Enjoy it. Take the good stuff. Indulge your family. Do your best.

Cause you know what? The Superintendent is still going to get a Gold Watch at the end of his career and you are still going to get a big fat F.A.

That's why we hang out here. We like fellow teachers, and we get it. And we accept the dreck that comes with the job....Otherwise we'd all be hanging out at www.idiotfocus.com or www.fatlardheads.com.

    *hugs*

Don't hold back Lisa, tell us how you really feel.

You are right. I got thank-yous from those that mattered. Several even tried to guilt me into staying. Darn near worked too. One teacher who I bumped heads with on a very regular basis cried and gave me a hug.

That is what matters. Thanks for the smack on the head.
