    middle school reward party idea

this is my first year in middle school in a few years. we are now having reward parties for few or no referrals.

anyway, i took this on -- the reward party. the first few weren't too bad, but ideas became slim pickings really fast.

i asked the student council reps to go back to their homebases for ideas to develop. my homebase decided to do "whose line is it anyway."

they planned decorations, refreshments, improv lines, & brought in props. one of the girls dressed up like drew carey.

i was a little concerned it wouldn't be pulled off, but it was great. 8th graders are the biggest hams!

their improvs were fabulous. shortest 45 minutes of the week!

    middle school party

Bitsy, I do a behavor party every Friday, last hour or hour and a half of school. I teach a suspension/expulsion alternative class of 6,7,8 graders. I also teach English to the 9-12 group.

We do checkers tournaments. Set up soccer agaist the staff.

have a picnic with another class on west campus (we are at a center school with mentally and physically disabled students although we are regular ed)

    watch a move

    play baseball

    go for extended walks

We are not allowed to go on field trips because of the money crunch, but we used to do that twice a year.

Students have to achieve an 80% or better and complet all their work to participate. The others have to stay in their seats and do work (ususally make up work)

I am always open to suggestions. You are so right about the being little hams. They love to perform.

We have videotaped the class and then watched the class during behavior party to see what they did.

    Great idea you had!!!

    Jo-Anne,

Thanks for your suggestions. You have some great one's. We are limited by the fact that some students have to sit out only a partial time and then get to join us. I'm going to add your list to the hat!
