    More Surgery

Yesterday my dad found out that he's going to have surgery again. This time they're going to have a fistula in his left arm to prepare for dialysis.

In 2001 when I was in the hospital with kidney failure, Dad was across town at another hospital having his kidney tests done. He is diabetic, which is part of his kidney problem. In September he had angioplasty on one kidney. That improved the blood flow and improved his kidney function some, but it's still not good. They want to go ahead and get the fistula in place so it will be there when he DOES need it. I know that they take from 4 to 6 months to heal completely. Because of other vascuar issues they prefer to be prepared instead of having to do an ash split cath in the chest on an emergency basis, which is what I had--not fun!!

While they had him at the office, they also reran his PSA test since the one from last month was high. His one last year was perfect, so they want to rerun this one since it was high.

He said that after all of that, the doctor asked him if he was feeling OK. When he said that he felt as good as he ever feels, they told him that he was running a fever of 101!

Sigh. . . poor Mom is worried sick. And she's epileptic, and stress can bring on more seizures. She's a big worrier anyway. . . about other people, that is. She's never concerned about herself.

Oh well. . . all we can do is pray that everything will work out for the best.

    Will do.

That's a tough one, Ima. Hopefully, all will end well. Prayers for you and yours.

I will be sending many positive thoughts your way that things will be fine. I am dreading when things start to go really wrong with my parents. They have both had operations to replace knees and hips and the like, and they are both diabetic, but these seem pretty trivial compared to what they could be suffering with.

I hope you are still able to find joy in the holiday season, despite your worries.

    Take care,
