    New kitties!

My husband is not too very fond of animals, but I got him to agree that if I was getting a kitten, two were better than one! We went and picked out two little kitties (they are only three weeks old, so we have to wait a bit) and hubby even named one...hopefully this means he will grow attached.

Not too much point to this post, other than I am excited and can't wait til Oct. 13!

I love cats. I have four of them. I got two through the SPCA. The SPCA had a booth at PetsMart. I don't know who came up with the idea for allowing the SPCA to booths at a PetsMart but I can tell you that after adopting two Manx kittens, I bought $1500 worth of pet supplies.

I bought cat furniture, harnesses, leashes, food bowls, water bowls, toys, combs, self-cleaning litter boxes, litter, food, treats, and instructional books.

Years later, when I moved from Texas to Pennsylvania, I traded in my beloved Buick LaSabre for a clunky looking Chevy Astro Van. I loaded the van with cat furniture, their favorite toys and blankets, a private spot for kitty litter, and deep bowls for food and water. I loaded the cats into the van and drove them from Texas to Pennsylvania in just four days.

The cats took up most of the van. I had one duffel bag of clothing and one small ice chest for food in the front passenger seat.

I wouldn't trade my cats in for anything. I've even turned down an overseas job assignment because I didn't want to take my cats overseas and was unwilling to give them up.

Right or wrong, we went out as a family on my birthday, and picked out Zacchaeus as our family dog from a church member's farm. The church owned the parsonage, so we probably should have gotten permission from the council. We had only been there for less than two months, so we didn't even think of that.

Fast forward over a year when the church decided to replace that old gold carpeting that would last longer than the house. We told them we were find with the gold. They decided to replace it. Hubby came home from the council meeting and told us they had spent a good amount of time talking about if we should get rid of our dog with the expense of the carpeting going in. I laughed in hubby's face at that thought, and told hubby that, in that case, we keep the dog and get rid of our son.

Few months later, son is sick and can't breathe very well and tells me that Daddy will have to take him to the doctor. Has to go into the living room to tell Daddy that. Son gets sick and sends forth the red koolaid from the afternoon on both the new carpeting and the dog. Daddy chose to bath son while I gave the dog a bath.

Took three weeks to get the stain out of the carpeting. I knew it was good when the dog stopped going there to lick the spot.

    David,
How does the self cleaning litter box work REALLY? My darling brought me home a part main-coon and when we moved into the hosue we bought, where his brother already lived, I adopted his brothers cat as well as bringing my fur ball with us. I have one good size litter box now, but with dogs constantly trying to get into it the room with the litter box can be a fun room. Just picture it: cat in the box doing their thing trying to get out as the dog is trying to get their head into the opening to "investigate" what the cat has just done. I've wanted to buy a self-cleaning box and the tent to go over it but the other half doesn't think they will work the way they claim.

    Any info would be great.

    They're here!

The new kitties have been home for a week! They are a riot to watch when they play together. Mango is the bright orange one and Smoke is the buff colored one.
My husband and I built one of those cat gyms for them, and they LOVE it! There was much swearing while it was built, but it was worth it.

I can't figure out how to put a picture in a post, but if someone tells me how, I'll put up a few of the little fuzz-faces.

How does the self-cleaning litter box really work?

    Simple.

The box comes with disposable containers. Insert one container in the designated slot. Sprinkle kitty litter in the litter box. Avoid filling the box above the indiciated line otherwise the machinery will jam. (I generally fill it halfway below the line because kitty litter will clump).

    Plug the machine in.

When your cat visist the kitty litter, a sensor detects the cat. The sensor is connected to a mechanical time relay. When a certain amount of time passes, the sweeper arm slides down the litter box, brushing the surface of the litter. Cat poop is pushed along with some clumped litter to the other side of the box. The top that covers the disposable container lifts up. The sweeper arm pushes the poop into the box. The sweeper arm then goes back across the litter box and clicks back into place.

All you need to do is to empty the container on a daily basis. The containers are reusable up to a certain point. You may want to sprinkle fresh litter in the litter box.

Once a week, I'd recommend replacing all litter as the dry litter will have absorbed cat urine.

The self cleaning litter boxes are pretty easy to use. The nice thing about them compared to conventional boxe is that you don't accumulate piles of poop - which owners would otherwise have to remove using the pooper-sifter.

Will your dogs disturb the litter box? I don't know. It depends upon the dog.

As far as tents go, I don't know of any self-cleaning boxes that come with tents.

Whenever I paste in the URL and hit the IMG button, all the post shows is a link to my pictures, not the actual picture. Is there another step I am missing? I'm using FireFox for my browser. if that matters.
