    An Old Farmer's Advice

This was in our local paper:

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight, and bull-strong.

Keep porcupines, bankers and lawyers at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plough around the stump.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered... not yelled.

    Meaness doesn't just happen overnight.

Forgive your enemies- it messes up their heads.

Do not corner something you know is meaner than you.

It doesn't take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Most of the stuff people worry about isn't going to happen anyway.

Don't judge people by their relatives.

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Live a good, honourable life, then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

Don't interfere with something that isn't bothering you.

Timing has alot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got at.

The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with watches you from the mirror each morning.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgement comes from experience, and a lot of that came from bad judgement.

Letting the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back in.

If you start thinking you are a person of some influence, try ordering someone elses dog around.

Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly.

These are great Sushi! Some made me laugh and some made me really think. A wonderful combination.

I can't remember where you are over east, but I hope you are nowhere near the riots in Sydney. I also hope you are having better weather than we're having over here in the west. It seems more like winter than summer at the moment.

    Take care,

No Zed, I am in Queensland, luckily. Some of my family live in Sydney, but we haven't heard from them.

Those riots are awful! I haven't wanted to listen too much about it, because it is plastered with shots of obnoxious looking people shouting obscenities. I have figured it's a racial debate though- right?
It's pretty disgusting, you don't normally see this in Australia.

Gosh, I'll swap you our weather- it's a sweltering 35 degrees here today, and for the past week. You sweat even getting an ice block out of the freezer! Horrible weather!

Thanks for your concern, and take care yourself!

Glad you are right away from things Sushi.

Yep, the riots are race related. Started a couple of weeks ago when a group of guys of 'middle-eastern appearance' beat up 3 life guards on one of Sydney's beaches. Well, the following week there were phone messages being sent all over the place and thousands of people decided to retaliate. I'm not even sure that they really thought about what they were doing, as it seems as though innocent people were being injured or having property damaged.

It seems as though this is even spreading over to this side of the country. We had a Lebanese family terrorised recently and I have a feeling there is more to come. I just wish that someone would catch the original 'gang' who attacked the life-guards. Perhaps then some tempers would be cooled.

I hope for your sake that this doesn't spread into Queensland. I am seriously hoping that it will calm down very soon, before someone is killed.

I read about your toe on another post. Not a fun way to spend your holiday. Take care of yourself.

Goodness.... What happened to the old "two wrongs don't make a right?"

There are a huge amount of Sudanese people in my town, the largest population of them in this country I think, and I've heard stories of them being terrorised. It's sad. I had the pleasure of working with one young Sudanese man for a while, and he couldn't of been more nice and polite!

I hope all is resolved soon, it's unsettling having this kind of violence and disorder in this country.

I wasn't too happy about hurting my toe right at the start of the holidays!! I had to laugh though, it was a funny situation.

    You take care too!!
