    Passing Notes in Church

My mom, my friends, and I have always had a bad habit of passing each other notes during church. We generally keep them on-topic . . . such as why is so-and-so on the prayer list or if we miss something. We figure it's better than talking.

So, last night DH and I go to church with his parents. During the sermon, the preacher means to say, " . . . dot your i's and cross your t's" only it comes out " . . . dot your t's and cross your i's." The "cross your i's" part is what starts MIL giggling. Nobody else seemed to pay attention. She slips me a note that says, "Are we the only people who noticed that he said, 'dot your t's and cross your i's'? I hand her the paper back, she folds it and places it in her purse.

AFter church we go to McDonald's. FIL's cell phone rings. It's for MIL. She listens for a minute and then bursts out laughing.

It's the preacher with a message, "If you're going to write bad notes about people, remember take them with you when you leave."

The note had fallen out of her purse. When the ones picking it up saw it, they read it. They thought it was funny, so they showed it to the preacher. He recognized MIL's handwriting since she always does the attendance list.

She was a bit embarrassed, but everyone's had a good laugh from it.

Remember this the next time you catch a note being passed in class.

Does not refer to you, I don't know how you feel about note passing:

In my position I have noticed that the one thing that ticks a teacher off the most, when their students do it, is the one thing they are most guilty of when I am giving PD.

I was a master note passer back in the day. I know that the teachers knew that we were passing notes. Heck, we used spiral notebooks or whole loose sheets of paper.

We got these. One was stolen from a girl, ended up in another school, given to me when the contents shocked the principal, and passed to our counselor when the contents shocked me.

I encourage kids to pass notes in my class. They feel that they just can't live without saying whatever is on their mind to the person next to them as it occurs to them. By having them write it instead, they tend to think a little about how much they really want to say.

The benefit for me is that it doesn't disturb my lesson/other students who want or need to hear what I am saying. For this reason, it doesn't bother me in the least.
I've heard that four out of every three people have trouble with fractions.
