    the PERFECT gift

Hi... I was hoping I could get some advice from an objective teacher about gift ideas for my AP World History teacher. She's put a lot of extra time into helping us prepare for the AP exam, and she's just been a really awesome teacher, so we wanted to get her a nice gift at the end of the year to show her our appreciation. We're donating $5 each, so it should add up to about $150. What kinds of things would you want? I was think maybe a nice globe, but maybe it would be better to get her something not related to the classroom? I'd appreciate any input you may have. Thank you.

Well, I got a gift I absolutely loved from my kids at christmas. Of course, I'm an elementary school teacher, but I think anyone would have loved this one.

It was a large basket, filled with:

    a beautiful teapot
an assortment of teas from Trader Joe's
An assortment of "treats" to go with the tea
And a very nice gift certificate to Barne's & Noble.

I spent my winter break curled up, reading, and sipping tea. Heaven.

Others that I have treasured include both indoor and outdoor plants, but that is because my kids know that I love to garden. I have a couple of plants in my atrium that I got from kids 5 years ago, and I still think about them when I water. I also have miniature roses in my garden, and some poppies that reseed every year, that were gifts from my students; along with a garden sign painted for me a decade ago by a first grader.

Books, tea, plants...everything I love. What does this teacher love?

    Thanks for the idea!

Thank you so much! A gift basket was a great idea! I think we'll do that. That way we can get her an assortment of things.

She loves political cartoons, so I'm going to try to find a book of them, and she likes books about presidents and historical events, like the kind you get at supermarkets, so I'll put some of those in there, and some scented candles, and a Barnes and Nobles giftcard sounds good.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer me so much!

    Jen
