    A really bad day....

I just want to whine a little bit without going into much detail.

I had an awful day. Actually this whole year has been the pits.

My classes are great, the kids are wonderful, but the situation around me is becoming intolerable.

My school used to be wonderful place, but no more. For the first time in my career, I want out.

    I hate this feeling.

    (((((Mary))))))

My day was lousy, too. I know that tomorrow will be better, though. I hope that you are able to focus on the things that are the positives, and it is good that you do have them. Hang in there and share with us whenever you need to.

I'm a little glad to hear that, Mary. Not because you are having a rough time, but because I've felt an unusual amount of stress and pressure this year as well and now I know I'm not alone. I feel blind-sided and have no idea what has caused this dramatic change.

I too love my students this year, but am feeling a lot of animosity from and toward my colleagues and am tempted to lock myself away from everyone and keep to myself. Unfortunately, I know that is the fastest route to burn-out.

I'm hoping for improvement as the year progresses. If it doesn't come, I'll seriously be looking at moving, perhaps even long distance.
I've heard that four out of every three people have trouble with fractions.

I always had a turtle's vision of my campus. On the premise that I couldn't do anything about other classes or the school administration, I just focused on my classroom. I had a reasonable amount of control over what happened within the four walls of my class. With the exception of enforcing school rules, I really didn't worry about problems outside tmy room.
Unfortunately, what's going on is impacting what I do in my room; that's part of my frustration.

Go hang out with some good friends this weekend. Take a short weekend trip. Go hiking or shopping. Eat at a nice restaurant and indulge yourself with a wonderful meal. Take a long soak in a hot tub with a good book. Cuddle with a significant other and watch a movie. Sleep in late.

Thanks for caring - I appreciate it.

You need to live beyond the moment. Create a memory for your life that you can take out and savor at some point in the future. Get some friends together and take a weekend trip. Go hiking in a state park or go bicycling down a country road. Take a break from the job and spend at least one day of this coming weekend on yourself. Indulge yourself with a visit to a spa for a massage.

Take time for yourself to rest and replenish your energy. The world may not look any different when you're rested and relaxed - but you'll be in far better shape to handle bumps along the road.
