BillyBob, thank you for your service. Wow, a major! Hats off to you.
I was there for Memorial Day with my dad and brother a few years ago, it was when they were completing the WWII Memorial. It was moving beyond words, not that being in Washington ever leaves me without awe.
My dad died this past fall, it's made this Memorial Day more poignant than ever, which is saying a lot since 9/11. He served at Omaha Beach in the second or third wave, surely we were lucky his injuries were not worse. They are leaving at an alarming rate, I've been blessed knowing him.
Today and everyday, I thank God that there have always been those that would answer the call.
The Soldier:
By Charles M. Province
It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
If you can read this message thank a teacher, If you are reading it in English of your own free will THANK A SOLDIER!
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.
