Road Trip with the "Old Folks" (Old "walker&q

    Geez . . . I think I'll be needing a walker any day now.

First, I go to the doctor's office where I realize that I've turned into one of those "old people" I used to see at the doctor's office with a bag full of pill bottles. I always wondered (A) why anyone would need that many medications and (B) why they couldn't just remember them. And then they had those silly containers with the days of the week on them. Who forgets if they took their medications . . . or even what day it is?

So, there I sat with my gallon ziplock baggie with my TEN prescriptions. And I even have TWO of those handy-dandy weekly pill reminders--one for morning and one for evening.

Then one of the guys I graduated with comes in. He's wearing overalls, walking with a cane, and he's missing most all his teeth . . . and he's doing the comb-over thing with his hair.

And, just in case that wasn't enough for the day, I run into one of my former students who's telling me about her baby who's four months old. The baby's GRANDMOTHER graduated with me!

Geez . . . too much for one day.

And, ironically, DH and I are going on a church trip tomorrow with the "young at heart" club . . . which is for ages 55 and over. I guess I might as well go with the "old folks" club since my 36 years seem to have suddenly qualified me for that age group.

I can relate. Today DH and I took MIL (who has alzheimers) to lunch. The waiter was one of my former 2nd grade students and will be enrolling next semester in the university where I teach so he'll be one of my college students now. He's late 20's, married, and has a kid. YIKES!

Hey don't knock the walker. I've been using a cane off and on for a year. DH is going to get me one of these before our next camping trip so that when we go walking the dogs we can go longer than just down the street and back.

We had a good time on our trip with the old folks today. DH thinks we live in the country. I tried to tell him that we're just in a rural area . . . so he got to see the country first-hand today. We rode with my parents, and DH was about in the floorboards by the time we got to the place. We were 17 miles outside the "city". One lane gravel roads kinda scare DH.

This is the road we were on to get there.

This is the view from the front porch.

DH didn't take his banjo because he said that seemed too "Deliverance" for him, but he did play guitar with one of the other guests. That's DH on the left, our preacher in the middle, and the musical guest on the right.

They also gave away several door prized, and I won this painting. It was painted by the SIL of our host.

Our of the "old folks" who are members of the group, my mom was the youngest at 60, and the oldest member is 85 . . . and he doesn't take any medications or have any health problems except hearing loss. (They put him and my dad together on fishing trips because both snore and neither can hear. LOL)

I'll tell you one thing, they sure did have a good time. They nearly wore us out!
