No kidding! I'll bet everyone will think twice before going through the lost and found, in fact will you even be able to allow the children to go thru it?
The Prince called us all down at recess for an emergency staff meeting to tell us that a hypodermic needle filled with some kind of liquid (I hope he gave it to the police) was found in our Lost and Found box by a parent. Luckily, it was capped so no one was punctured. It's scary enough that when the building custodian does his sweep every morning, he finds many used needles in the unseen-from-the-street areas but to find one in our Lost and Found hits a little close to home. This used to be a nice safe little area...sigh
If you can't be kind, at least be vague.

I don't think there is such a thing as a nice safe little area anymore. And if you think you live in one your eyes aren't open.
Sad too say, but at least it was in the lost and found and not in someone's arm.

There are times when I wish we could dial the clock back to the 50's. I am sure that with the war in Korea and the government's cold war against Communism, people in the 50's were looking back to an early "golden age" as well.
I wonder if this golden age ever truly existed.
(sigh)
It is kind of like the grass being greener else where. It wasn't. When it comes to memory we filter out the bad. From what I have heard about the fifties, I would rather avoid it. Of course, my families lived in very intolerant area.Originally Posted by David Chin

In 1998 while working in Beirut, an Israeli reconnaisance plane rocketed overhead. A Syrian anti-aircraft gun crew just one block away began firing at the plane.
Since my students were at recess and since we didn't know if we were being attacked, I had my kids duck and cover in the shelter of a brick wall. I figured it was better to do this than to stand in the open.
We were subsequently bombed in June of 1999 after the last day of school. I spent the entire evening under a heavy desk in my faculty apartment while waves of planes flew overhead.
Syrian and Lebanese gun crews throughout the city engaged the attacking planes. The building rumbled as the planes swept overhead. There were explosions in the distance.
It was horrible.
And just when I began to wonder whether the attack had ended, another wave of Israeli planes would hit the city.
I am lucky that this attack only lasted one night. Since I was scheduled to leave Lebanon on vacation, I resigned my position. No one knew whether this attack was a one time strike or whether there would be more attacks followed by a ground offensive in the future.
I figured it was time to "get out of Dodge."
I gave up a perfectly good overseas teaching career to return to the safety and security of the United States and ran smack into the middle of NCLB in Texas. 9/11 also occured two years later.
I sometimes wonder what path my life would have taken had I simply stayed overseas ...
Some 65 mill. ys. ago perhaps ???I wonder if this golden age ever truly existed.
No, frankly my golden age was in the late sixties,,,,,,,,,

Did we have hippies ????
You bet !
I used to drive around with a friend of mine in an ol' VW caravan - !
Dyed T-shirts was for use at home- in 1969 Indian silk shirts was the thing to wear ! (And bell-bottoms,sandals, very long hair and a guitar.)
Those were the days !!!!!!!!!
Carefree and endless peace !
Naive ? absolute - but what a way to start the rest of our lives.
During the wintertime we hibernated - almost.
Someone had a cave somewhere where we could crash for a week or two.
