So, whats for lunch in your neck of the woods?

Our cafeteria is serving a choice of Salisbury Steak with Augratin potatoes a role and mixed fruit, or Corn dogs with tater tots salad and fruit.

I just finished a shredded beef and cheese burrito made from left over roast, chips, banana, and a Diet Pepsi. I think bringing my lunch was a good decision.

The original form of our cafeterias salisbury steak is quite questionable. If there is meat in there, it plays serious second fiddle to the soy filler. Two entriely different textures.

I just got back from practicum and made myself some macaroni and cheese (from scratch!). It was quite tasty.

Whatever the kids were having for lunch today at my school smelled really good, I thought, but one little girl in class announced that the smell of lunch made her want to throw up. Oh well.

I had cream of sweet potato soup followed by wild rice pilaf served with a pan fried peppercorn venison steak with a mushroom demi-glace sauce and grilled asparagus.

David, I knew you would pop in with something sounding way too tasty. DO you ever just chuck together a ham sandwich and have a few doritos?

I actually had a ham sandwich yesterday. I spread spicy mustard over a slice of homemade sourdough bread, layered ham on top of it, added chopped tomatoes, and then added the top layer of bread. I brushed both sides with extra virgin olive oil and crisped the bread on the grill.

I ate the sandwich with a hearty Tuscan bean and lentil soup made with stock from the ham bone to which I had added chopped potatoes and carrots.

My lunch is a bottle of Code Red Mountain Dew- I never go near the cafeteria as I find the food there disagrees with me. (Also, I prefer to spend my 20 minutes of lunch socializing in the Social Studies office, where I can get a complete rundown of the previous evening's sporting events without ever turning on ESPN).

I had a spicy chicken sandwich off the ala-carte line b/c the main line was a disgusting looking baked potatoe with brocoli and some kind of chili topping. Quite foul....

Though on the other hand, are there some school lunches that you (and even the kids) just love?

For me it is mini corn dogs and shepard's pie (two different entrees by the way...not together )

Our school has a set menu monst days and some items that are available every day as well.

Mondays and Fridays, we dont have a "special". Kids can order ham/cheese burger (with or without bun), grilled chick breast, salad, chicken tenders, fries, chicken sandwich, chicken salad (sandwich), grilled cheese, peaches, maybe a few other things I am forgetting. Oh, and theres water, sweet tea, Splenda tea and then the trusty milk options as well.

Tuesday is BarBque on bun day (or the other stuff)
    Wednesday is Dominoes Pizza Day
    Thursday is burrito day

I usually take my lunch b/c I eat low carb as a lifestyle and I really get tired of meat patties or chicken breast and salad. But the grilled cheeses are to die for. She keeps em hot on the griddle until ya pick it up. The chicken tenders are really good too. And of course, the pizza is, lol.

Our lunch room is set up with a large section of microwaves and a group of ladies that are there standing ready to heat your food brought from home.

Our students turn in order forms each morning and their food is hot and ready for them when they go through the line. We teachers have to check the menus as the kids go thru the line to make sure they are getting what they actually ordered (saves on wasted food). Its a neat system - I didnt think it would work, but it does.

For elementary students, the lunch ladies have each child's lunch (brought from home) warmed, laid out and ready on their named place mats. I really dont know how they do it and run a smooth lunch line, but its great.
