    Summer work?

What, if anything, do you do in the summer? I'm working on a few grant projects this summer and mainly staying home to enjoy my kiddos. I was wondering what other teachers did in the summer beside relax

I don't do anything except cross-stitch, scrapbook, and work in the yard . . . and whatever else catches my fancy. Two summers I was in grad school, and one summer I did a writing workshop. The other 11 years since I've been teaching, I haven't done much of anything.

If I lived somewhere bigger, I might actually get a retail job somewhere, like in a book store. But I'm in a small town with NOTHING to do. I'd have to drive 20 miles or more to the next county in order to work anywhere, and I'd not make any money that way.

I hear you Ima. The bookstore thought actually crossed my mind. We live 5 minutes from a major mall so retail galore is available to me. I'm also thinking of Kohl's just for the clothing discounts! But who knows...today staying home with my kiddos sounds just fine to me

I'd probably get fired from a bookstore because I'd be wanting to read instead of work.

I told DH that I'd like to work at Lane Bryant or New York & Company for the discounts. One of my friends used to work a retail department store job on weekends, holidays, and summers. She loved it . . . and got great discounts!

And I will spend my summer trying to find a way to loose arguements that defends the right to bear arms.

As I have said before - I find it very hard to defend guns - in any shape, size or form.

I have to this day not heard a convincing story here - just the same old defence of the 2.amendement.

How come som may of us have double standards !
We allow our kids to watch the news - with huge amounts of violence - but the fourletter word or swaring is bleeped out . Nudity is horrible, closeups from a schoolshooting is quite all right.
I just dont get it !

Another thing - the day after the VE tragedy - this subject is avoided.
Why not care about what firstgraders might think ? After all - the have watched CNN;CBS;NBC;ABC;FOX etcx.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ..............

I am going to work at our local natural science center for two weeks, doing some science classes. Also am going to Alaska in June for a GLOBE and NASA workshop, as well as taking part in teacher space camp. Going to NCCAT (North carolina center for the advancement of teaching) for a seminar on leadership.

Do you ever read about Mayor Richard Daley, of Chicago? There might be an archive online at the Chicago Tribune (major newspaper). He tries to get legislation in to address the matter.

I used to take temp jobs sometimes. It was a good way to make some extra cash and maintain computer skills.
