We spent yesterday in New York

I've never been before. We were invited to a 100 year company anniversary dinner cruise.

We flew up Saturday morning and back Sunday morning. We spent Saturday just roaming. We were dropped off in Times square and went down 42 street and down to the Empire State building to Madison Square Garden and then to Central Park.

We took the cruise that night and saw the Statue of Liberty at night. It was beautiful. I need to load my pix on and see if they came out ok. We won a portable DVD player.

    It was a blast!

Sounds like a wonderful time. I haven't been to NYC since I was in HS. It really is a magical place to visit. Not sure I'd want to live there but it is a neat place. One of a kind.
Glad you had a good time. Can't wait to see the pix.

I've been to NYC 4 times- all in the company of 9th graders. (I'd say more about that, but you guys could well imagine.) Sounds like your trip was a bit more fun.

John Boy- I went to school in driving distance to NYC and used to do field trips to the Bronx zoo, china town, and the museums. As a teacher now..I feel for all those brave teachers that annually braved the city with teens.

The last time we went was in the spring of 2001. A woman went out the window of our hotel- some of the kids saw her pass by on the way down. I found out about it when I saw student X walking down the hall, who told me that "A woman fell or was pushed out an upstairs window- and the police are talking to Student Y!" Since X and Y were both boys I had in a particularly bad class that year, I naturally assumed the worst. Fortunately, in the elevator, I ran into student Y, who was indeed talking to a cop, along with student Z, also in the bad class- and as it turned out, they only saw the lady pass by the window and hit the roof of a lower building- they had nothing to do with her going out the window. (Relief, Relief, Relief). And remarkably, they were calm, coherent (prompting the thought "Where were these well-spoken young men when we were having class...?"

Some months later I saw the policeman's face on CNN after 9-11. He was listed as missing- I never did find out if he was one of the victims or not. Thank God we took the trip in April.

Sounds like a great trip. I love NYC. Living on the east coast, I have been quite a few times. Right now, I am entered in a contest to win a weekend in NYC to see Rosie O'Donnell in Fiddler on the Roof. I rarely enter contests, but I would LOVE to win this one.
P.S. JohnBoy, your story was TOO funny!!!

Living in Queens, just a subway ride from NYC, it's very exciting to me
to hear about other people's vacations here. I tend to take it for granted.

I have two kids of my own. Whenever we have a break from school,
I travel with them. We've been to Boston, Gettysburg and several other
    places.

Maybe I should take them into the city and see it a couple tourists. I do go into the East Village more often now that a friend of mine moved back
with her parents. I see tourists on the double-decker tour busses, snapping pictures as they go.

I think we'd have a blast !! I'm going to suggest it to them !

I have been working on the pictures -- this week has been crazy though. I found out Tuesday that I needed to take the GRE again, so I took it Saturday. Joe came home for fall break (with future DIL). I had to go fix my mom's cable. OH and it was spirit week for homecoming that was postponed due to rain. mmmmmmm and I still had to work and take my class. Pictures were on the back burner for sure.

I'm hoping to get them up by next weekend. They all had to be adjusted since most were at night.
