what a horrific last two day....

So, this is the first chance I have had to post this. If you watched CNN on Thursday it made national news.

There was a massive manhunt for a man who shot and killed a cop and his dog on a routine traffic stop. He wounded another.

I work in Lakeland, FL and one of our schools was one of the two that were under lock down. We were about 2 miles from the sight of the shooting. The other school is less than a mile from the site. We were lucky, we were able to start releasing kids around 5pm. The other school stayed locked down then had to transport the kids to a church to be released.

    We canceled school on friday.

It was an interesting experience. I felt safe in my room...I had about 20 kids and access to four other rooms. So we were fine...just a little stir crazy. When we had to be out and move the kids to the auditorium and could hear sirens and see the helicopters in the sky.....well, that was a little more nerve wracking.

Here is the story from CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/09/29/deputi ... index.html

I am wheeling over our situation and then the Colorado situation...what is trully happening to this world?

Then there was the principal who was shot in fair proximity to us in Wisconsin.

We were in lockdown after a step-father killed his eight-year-old son and then disappeared. He was found two days later in a barn about 30 miles away.

Daughter is doing PT and faces an MRI on her knee (she's had two knee surgeries due to sports injuries) after breaking up a fight in her classroom and having some damage done to her knee.

I am still reeling from a friend whose husband hit daughter's boyfriend, pulled out his guns, went into the hospital for emergency protective custody as a danger to himself. Wife has a restraining order now and is filing for divorce.

The violence is getting out of hand and is frightening.

The world seems very violent and unstable right now.

Goodness, I am so sorry to hear of your experience. The same week, another teacher friend and I found some drawing by some 8th grade students that looked suspiciously gang oriented. Had pictures of killing people and also pics of a machine gun and a pistol with blood dripping off. Lots of fighting stick people too. I know that sounds minor, but we are a small Christian school, and that stuff is not common for us.

You all are in my prayers as you deal with these scary situations and scared students.

Last year, we had a student who drew a picture of him shooting one of his (very recognizable) teachers. He got 5 days OSS. *sigh*
