What In The World Is Going On????

Maybe because I've worked with juvenile criminals and adult criminals, I'm more aware of such things - and I don't know about where you all live. But it is utterly AMAZING the amount of murders and stupid stuff that teenagers are committing these days.

Just about a month ago, a former basketball player of mine, her brother, another kid I had in my suspension school and another girl assulted another kid and robbed him. And what did they get? 40 frekin dollars and a bottle of prescription pills!

Now, they are of age (over 18) and will be facing adult prison. From what I've read so far, it was all over (what else), drugs.

In a neighboring city, just today, their paper had THREE stories of 17 year olds abusing babies and one killed a 3 year old!

I'm reading and hearing this stuff with alarming frequency. Are you folks seeing the same stuff? It's crazy!

    Hi Stan:

I'm a friend from another realm.

I wonder what is going on today too. Is it that the kids are under the influence of
drugs, or that they were conceived with drugs in their systems affecting them in
    their everyday lives?

You know, autism is the new catch-all term for every kind of learning disability
these days and the drugs for attention disorders that they're on have major side
    effects.

I've wondered about this for quite awhile also. I think a good majority of it has to do with the government threatening people if they choose to raise their children in the same way they were raised. The kids today have no fear and no respect for authority because the authority at home has been undermined by a government that wants to "save" the kids from any unpleasantness.

    The inevitable result...

Kids are testing the limits, finding out that (at home) the limits don't exist, so they are pushing them, and pushing them, and when society cries out that the kid has done something inappropriate, the parent steps in and cries foul.

Growing up is not all wine and roses and we need to stop pretending that it is. It is filled with hard lessons to learn before adulthood when the punishments are issued by an unforgiving court (rightfully so).

There are many here that disagree with me, so I'd like to add that this is MHO and not meant to ruffle any feathers. I do welcome debate.
I've heard that four out of every three people have trouble with fractions.

Well Math Mary, I've heard that every 8 out of 7 people have trouble with algebra! hahahahahahahahahahahaha.............

Yea, I feel what you are saying, and I think there is a ring of truth to it. This current government seems to want to turn us ALL into criminals.

I throw on top of what you said a pretty screwed up media/entertainment industry. Look at your news (so-called). Lies, and debate has turned into shout-fests. The Disney Channel? When I was violently ill Monday, I laid on the couch and listened for over an hour what my daughter was watching on the Disney Channel. What vanity, sassyness, nilhilism, distrespect for other humans - from the DISNEY CHANNEL!

I tell my daughter why what is said on those shows is light weight screwed up as opposed to making her turn the channel. I want her to see kids acting like adults, and adults acting like kids, and NONE OF IT is reality. Teachable moment, I guess.

I agree with you - good lookin' out.

Exactly. We even had some official tell it publicly in a press release. I don't remember the official quote, but her two main points/sentences were something like a) "parents are using some methods of discipline which are not matching the modern world and can turn children into antisocial beings" and b) "parents are using the using the methods they were subjected to themselves". It basically meant that parents are antisocial beings not matching the modern world. :? 8O

Betty!!!! Welcome. You really got me there. Nice to hear from you. I'm kinda bouncing around for awhile but checking in here often.

You mean you had a shot at getting into teaching "on the inside" and thought twice? We need to talk, sis. And we can send messages here without using email.

    Good lookin' out.

Just recently a kid at my school (now transferring) ran over a cat and then ran the cat's body (it was still a bit alive) up the flagpole. The parents claimed it was just a "prank."

I don't know what's wrong with kids these days.

Also, something interesting was pointed out to me recently: the post-Holocaust generations have been taught and encouraged to question authority. I know, as a student, I was outraged at any sign of a teacher behaving unjustly (not quite realizing that they were HUMAN). I still feel that I'm not respectful toward the administration and the government just because I see all of the hypocrisy and stupidity running rampant. Perhaps the flipside to teaching that everyone should question authority is that it is harder to earn respect from students/the public?

    sitdownandshutup,

It does get confusing. You oughta teach in a prison! I hate to keep bringing that up, but it's where I work, and I mention it this time because they (inmates) view EVERYTHING as a conspiracy. It's to the point where I have fun with it........"Yea, I wore a different shirt today, it's a conspiracy!!!!"

To a certain extent, I understand where they are coming from. Hell, we all conspire to a certain degree, and our "authority figures" like you said are not the "best and brightest" (in my words). How some people ascend to positions of authority in government, school districts, whatever, makes me shake my head sometimes.

Sadly, I think we know how (and it isn't by sweatin' or reading books, either)!
