Yes, I believe God has filled my need for a grandfather, it's all I wanted, and one that I was safe with. You may have guessed what happened with the other two, but now I have a trustworthy Grandad, and I'm so happy, I am crying in pleasure!

Hubby got me an IPOd for Christmas. I love it. My favorite songs are all downloaded now. I have Wilson Phillips, all my Buffett stuff, some Enya, Dixie Chicks, the old Fleetwood Mac stuff, old Moody Blues, and Let's Get it Started by the Blackeyed Peas. Oh and the Warren Zevon tribute CD produced by his son. Adam Sandler sings Werewolves of London on it.

You sweet young thing, you! I graduated high school in 80, got my BA (Penn State) in 84 and then waited a heck of a long time and got my master's (NC State) in 2002.

Oh, and Sushi, go for it on the guitar! I have played violin since I was 7, taught myself guitar when I was 13, then after I had basically learned all the chords and notes (took about a year to get good), begged for a year of lessons to make sure I had it all down correctly. I played clarinet in high school because I wanted to be in marching band. I still play guitar and sing when I am stressed. It helps A LOT! So does violin.

I listen to 70's music and country music I also have a steel guitar that I'm learning to play when I have time. I have played classical piano for years and although a bit rusty after two hand surgeries (thumb joint reconstructions) in the past 6 years, I can still manage to play a rousing Chopin on occasion. Beethoven is my choice for a more mellow session.

My tastes vary greatly. I listen to internet music mostly (through shoutcast) as stick to 'downtempo, lounge, classical, techno/trance, and 80's" I occaisionaly tune in to top 40 but cannot take it for very long. I like to keep abreast of what kids are listening to these days.

It is surprising how many songs 'resample' stuff from old songs from 'my generation' (80's and before).

I have two young (3 and 6 years old) daughters at home so the 'style' of music varies between the 'backyardagans' and princess songs when we are in the family room. They will occasionally tolerate classical. No beebop stuff yet. Thank goodnes.

My son is almost 16 and he is teaching himself the guitar. He has had quite a bit of music education in school, so he has some background.

He also finds music on the internet and just seems to know what to do. He said that practice will make your fingers stronger, so keep on practicing.

Guitar enthusiasts- check out Richard Shindell

My brother got me hooked two years ago on this guy. Phenomenal in person! I can't believe that one guy can create the music from one guitar. We get to see him in a folksy restaurant here in NH and it is a beautiful setting. Great folk music. He writes lyrics and all of his songs are different. There is a free download on Amazon called Fishing- check it out. The song is about human rights in S. America-metaphor for getting information.

He was out on tour with Dar williams and Lucy Kaplansky a few years ago and that album, Cry, Cry, Cry is worth checking out.

So I listen to him and the Indgo Girls for mellow, Alanis Morisette and Ani Difranco when rowdy, Coldplay, Barenaked ladies, Dave Matthews....very eclectic listener. But I hate Rap and pop music on the radio now!

I'm with you on the rap. I hate it too. I've tried to like it - my kids listen to it, and I keep trying to like it. But I don't.

And maybe the hokie pokie really IS what it's all about, Jan!

Bluegrass and Sacred Harp singing on the Cold Mountain sound track. Love it.

Tomorrow? Ozzy or Bethoven. Who knows, we'll see what kind of mood I'm in.

Ooooo, Mel, I loved that Cold Mountain soundtrack! I also loved the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack. Have you heard that one?

Come to think of it, I love Beethoven, too, and especially Bach when violinist Hillary Hahn plays it.

And yes, love the Bluegrass, too!
