This morning, the following conversation took place in the kitchen between me and my four-year-old grandson:
Grandson(GS): Grandpa, this is ketchup.
Grandpa(GP): No, it's strawberry jam.
GS: It's ketchup.
GP: See this picture? It's a strawberry.
GS: (Pointing at Golden Arches) It's from McDonald's. It's ketchup.
GP: Open the little packet up and taste it.
GS: (Opens and tastes a little) I think it's ketchup.
GP: It's still strawberry. What are you doing now?
GS: (Squeezing tube into kitchen trash) Throwing the strawberry in the trash.
GP: You need to wash your hands. They're dirty.
GS: They're not dirty. They're clean. They're only dirty from Cheetos.

The summer before sophomore year, our girl scout troop helped run a cooking day camp for younger scouts. I had the following conversation with an 8- or 9-year-old girl.
HER: What grade are you in?
ME: I'm in tenth grade.
HER: Tenth grade... so you're in college, right?

The true teacher defends his pupils against his own personal influence. He inspires self-distrust. He guides their eyes from himself to the spirit that quickens him. He will have no disciple.
LOL! I love conversing with little kids.
