    Wooly Worm Forecasting

    At school on Friday I found a big, fat black & brown wooly worm IN MY BOOKBAG.

    I've often heard of forecasting winter weather by "reading" colors on wooly worms.

    black=cold/snowy
    brown=dry/mild

    So . . . when it's in the book bag . . . lots of days off for snow this winter?

    Do you mean one of these? They aren't called woolly worms, they're called woolly bears!

    What does everybody else call them?

    I think I would call it a pipe cleaner.

    In some cultures it might be called "a snack".

    I've found three bizaare things in my bookbag over the years . . .

    brown recluse spider
    mouse--eating my breath mints
    wooly worm

    I don't like fuzzy worms, but it's the least freaky thing in my bag. Plus, the kids had a ball with it all class period.

    DH and I went to the next county over for the Wooly Worm Festival last year. They had races. Very interesting. I think DH was kind of scared. He's from the western part of central KY, and it was enough of a shock moving to the eastern side . . . and then I took him up in the mountains. 8O

    I would give you a website to the festival . . . but I don't think they have one.

    You can call them woolly worms all you want, I'll still call them woolly bears. I think it's cuter and I bet if you asked the animals themselves, they'd want to be called something cute like "bears" instead of something icky like "worms". Maybe they'd like to be called woolly bunnies! :lol:
